Inclement Weather Plan:

Winter is close at hand and along with it come concerns of ice/snow storms and possible early dismissals.  On rare occasions, schools may also be cancelled because of some type of mechanical/electrical failure.  When this happens, we need to be sure that someone is home or that the students have a place to go. During the second week of school, we sent home mid-day closure forms to all families.  In the event of a mid-day closure, the school will contact the name designated on your child's form to inform them of the early closure.  No student will be released without a guardian, emergency contact or designate being contacted.

In cases of early morning inclement weather, the HRCE will decide whether or not to cancel school and will announce on the local radio stations and the HRCE website (www.hrce.ns.ca)  As well, you can be notified by email and/or text.  Click the notification button on the HRCE website to register (www.hrsb.ns.ca). 

We belong to the J.L. Ilsley Family of Schools. If school is cancelled for the J.L. Family of Schools, Sambro is closed.  If busses are not running but schools are open in the J.L. Family, then we are open for walkers and students driven by their guardians.  Listen carefully, as exceptions are also announced.  For instance, they may say:  All schools in the Halifax West Family of Schools are closed today along with Sambro, Harrietsfield, etc. 

If you have any questions regarding this process, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.  We cannot stress enough to listen/read carefully for information about school closures as the conditions will vary  (i.e. no busses but schools open, only certain schools open, specific families of schools closed with exceptions, etc.).
